Summer mornings can be a tad more demanding than normal. The heat takes it toll and can easily cause extra tiredness or reluctance. To alleviate this and start the day with a good and refreshing taste in your mouth, we propose five types of healthy and fresh breakfasts. You can combine them as you please and accompany them with a chilled beverage such as iced coffee, fresh orange juice or cold water.
Yogurt, the versatile favorite
Yogurt is a quick, healthy and refreshing resource. It may sound a bit bland to you, but the secret is how the combination is done.
Yogurt is a satiating and delicious eat that is easy to mix with cereals and fresh fruits on top. For the latter you can choose between a wide variety such as strawberries, blueberries, bananas, apples or mango. You swich from day to day and even combine different fruits on top to create the necessary variation to make the meal exciting every day. Moreover, you are sure to provide your body with a wealth of vitamins and minerals from the early hours to give it energy.
As for cereals, choose something that does not extend 10g of sugar per 100g to keep it healthy. Out flakes or low-sugar cereals are perfect and provide the crunch that will get you hooked.
Yogurt with cereals and fruits is much better than the usual milk with sugary cereal products. Moreover, the yogurt provides a much better satiation than milk.
Fruit bowl or smoothie
Smoothies has been a hit for years, especially amongst us that are always in a hurry in the mornings.
Mix yogurt or fresh cheese with your fruits of choice in a blender until you get a creamy texture, not too liquid though. This will be the base of your breakfast.
If you want to make it more “drinkable” like a traditional smoothie you can give a little extra in the blender or mix in some ice cubes.
If you want to use your base as a yogurt, keep it as it is. You can then add seeds, nuts, grated coconut and other fruits on top of it and eat with a spoon.
We can’t ignore one of the most praised breakfast favorites in the world, the toast. However, most people tend to make it less healthy by smearing chocolate, butter and cream cheese all over it to make breakfast more well-tasting.
Instead of reaching for the products with high amounts of refined sugar in them, reach for some fresh fruits to add on top of it. Toast with slices of banana, strawberry or peach gives it a touch of summer. Also, you can sprinkle cinnamon on top of of the fruits too to give it an even more sweet taste. Alternatively, a really thin layer of peanut putter underneath will work too.
If you are looking for something less sweet, there’s the all-time high-scorer, avocado. Cut the avocado in slides or smash it to a spreadable texture and smear it on. Avocado work great with other vegetables and ingredient, for example, tomatoes, extra virgin olive oil and fresh basil.
The night before, mix two tablespoons of chia seeds in a container with 200ml of almond milk or cow milk and put it in the fridge. The next morning it will have a thick texture, almost like pudding.
You can easily add fresh fruits, cereals or even yogurt on top of it. You can also add additional sweeteners such as syrup or brown sugar, just don’t go crazy obviously.
Pour milk, three tablespoons of oat flakes and a teaspoon of chia seeds into a bowl and put it in the fridge overnight. The next morning it will have stiffened and the flakes will be tender, so no need to cook in a pot.
All you have to do is add topping of your choice such as fresh fruits, grated coconut, nuts, dried fruits etc.
